ABOUT

Bloomington Clay Studio is a community-based studio situated just outside city limits in Bloomington, Indiana USA. Founded in 2008 by artists Daniel Evans and Shu-Mei Chan, BCS’ primary mission is to create a rich, stimulating and sustainable environment for artists and craftspeople – especially those interested in using clay/ceramics/ceramic processes in their work. An important part of this mission is to provide quality ceramic arts programming & education to area youth and adults.

From functional pottery to decorative objects, sculpture, installations and beyond, we seek to nurture various applications of the ceramic medium: We offer access to studio space and equipment, exhibition opportunities in our gallery, small classes, workshops, internships, and private lessons to people of all ages and skill levels. BCS is the proud home to Bloomington’s first and only publicly-accessible anagama wood kiln.

Three tumbling acres of quiet and wooded conservation land serve as a peaceful retreat to explore new activity, discover sustainable practices, produce/present new work, hone and share skills, develop techniques, and stimulate ideas within a supportive creative community. We look forward to hearing from you and working together, strengthening the arts in Bloomington and beyond.

See you soon!
